Snowflake kids sweater vest pattern

Knit snowflakes sweater vest
Knit snowflakes sweater vest
The idea of knitting such a vest for my son came to me while I was thinking about how to dress him at his kinder-garden Christmas party. I wanted something special and unique for him, that warms him not only in the direct meaning :). In order to create a winter atmosphere, I've decided to knit some white snowflakes on the navy color vest. If you have basic skills of knitting, you can do it yourself without difficulties. It's easy and interesting.

If you'd like to knit a similar one for your kids or as a gift for someone special for you, you'll find below some simple instructions and the pattern for the snowflakes motif.

You'll need:

  1. Yarn (I used pure wool)
  2. Straight knitting needles (5 mm)
  3. Circular needles
  4. Measuring tape
  5. Yarn needle

Gauge

In Stockinette Stitch with straight needles, 18 sts and 24 rows = 10 cm/4 inches.

Finished Size

4 years old kid

Chest Circumference - 60 cm
Length from Bottom to Top Shoulder - 45,5 cm
Length from bottom to Underarm -29,5 cm
Note: To adjust the size you could alter the gauge.

How to knit:

Let's begin with the back side of the vest:
  1. Cast on 57 stitches with the straight knitting needles for the back side of the vest.
  2. Row 1 (right side): Knit two, *purl two, knit two; repeat from * to end.
  3. Row 2: Purl two, *knit two, purl two; repeat from * to end.
  4. Repeat rows 1 and 2 until the piece measures 2 cm.
  5. Then knit in stockinette stitch (alternate a knit row with a purl row) until the piece measures 27 cm
  6. Begin bind off stitches. Row 1 (right side): bind off 3 stitches and repeat this for the Row 2 (wrong side). Row 3: bind off 2 stitches and repeat this for the Row 4 too. Row 5: bind off 2 stitches and repeat this for the Row 6 too.
  7. Then knit until the piece measures 43 cm
  8. Knit 10 stitches, bid off 23 stitches and continue to knit the remaining 10 stitches.
  9. Knit just the 10 stitches of the back left shoulder until the piece measures 45,5 cm. (the other 10 stitches can just remain on the needle). Bind off. Repeat the same for the back right shoulder. The back side of the vest is well done!
Let's continue with the right side of the vest:
  1. Repeat the first 6 steps as for the back side.
  2. Knit the next 13 rows of the snowflakes motif as in the pattern below: x = the white yard

  4.  Continue to knit only with the main color until the piece measures 38 cm.
  5. Row 1: Knit 22 stitches, bid off 2 stitches and continue to knit the front right  shoulder ("right"-as is wearing the vest), the first 22 stitches just remaining on the needle. Row 2: Just pull it. Row 3: bid off 2 stitches. Row 4: Just pull it. Repeat Row 3 and row 4 until it remains 10 stitches on the needle. Knit until the piece measures 45,5 cm and bind off (on the right side).
Repeat the same for the front left shoulder and the front side of the vest is done!
